The new Nissan GT-R ( R35 )

If it wasn't the fact that Nissan always wanted to take over the reputation of the well establish brand name of Porsche, what would be that car? Well... we'll probably never know. The great-granddaddy of the new GT-R, the "Godzilla" R32 Skyline GT-R produced from 1989-'93, was designed to equal the performance of the iconic Porsche 959. Nissan's benchmark for the 2009 GT-R? The mighty Porsche 997-series 911 Turbo. With a price tag twice cheaper and with known fact of better performance, most of us will agree that GT-R"ocks". All tuners will agree that GT-R are one of the top tuning car in the world amoungst it's rival the Toyota Supra twin turbo and the Mazda RX-7 turbo.

Cobb Tuning has re-engineered its AccessPort control unit for the new R35 Nissan GT-R. For those of you lucky enough to own a GT-R and not content with its performance out of the box, the $995 AccessPort will reflash the ECU to any one of six different tuning levels.

The AccessPORT is the most user friendly reprogramming device for your vehicle's computer. The provided mapping will optimize the air/fuel ratio and ignition timing, remove the speed limiter, and more for performance results you can instantly feel! But the AccessPORT is so much MORE than just a REFLASH DEVICE. It allows you to also read any of the DTC (trouble) codes on the various computers on the GT-R as well as clear them out of memory (reset them).

Here's some numbers put up with the unit installed on a test car

* Stage 1 (standard, or standard w/ cat back exhaust):
o 91 Octane Fuel (US) - +55 hp and +60 lb/ft torque
o 93 Octane Fuel (US) - +63 hp and +70 lb/ft torque

* Stage 2 (hi-flow cats or no cats and cat back exhaust):
o 91 Octane Fuel (US) - +65 hp and +80 lb/ft torque
o 93 Octane Fuel (US) - +70 hp and +90 lb/ft torque

Here's comments from an access port user from a popular forum:

Well the car was very fast stock. THe turbos never seemed to have been let go to have the big turbo punch. I can tell you once you step on it, it is like someone let the cork out of this car. WOWOWOW! Just stage 1 and huge noticeable difference in torque. The car pulls right to redline now, and has the big turbo punch in the face. From a dead stop it is just scary fast. Now, from speed, it is also pulling very hard. Its like some sort of animal got unleashed in this thing. You guys are going to like this.
